About blogs

Blog - This is a very common term now among internet users. NDTV survey says there are over 40,000 regular bloggers in our country. Many of our celebrities have their own blogs. Our Big B has his blog. Our Railway Minister Laloo has strted one recently. So, what is blog?

A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), audio (podcasting) are part of a wider network of social media. Micro-blogging is another type of blogging which consists of blogs with very short posts.

I have my own blog too www.from-mybackpack.blogspot.com/.
The soft copy of this magazine is also available as a blog http://kidzmagzine.blogspot.com/

Know your English

Vowels of a language contributes to the pronounciation of the words in the language.

Let us see some interesting things about vowels in English. All of us know that a, e, i, o, u are the vowels.

Try putting consonants together and attempt to read the word.
For ex, pt. Does it mak any sense reading it?
Now try inserting vowel.
pat
pet
pit
pot
put

Hope you'll admit that the words makes sense to read, each word taking different pronounciation and different meaning.

Many of us may not have noticed that these vowels have two sounds.
A takes sounds a as in apple and ae as in ape.
E takes sounds e as in english and eh as in egg
I takes sounds e ( a very short e) as in ink and i as in kite
O takes sounds o as in poll and oh as in on
u takes sounds u as in use and uh as in us

Is there any word in english that has no vowels in it?
Yes,I
f we refer to words that lack "true" vowels (a, e, i, o, and u), the answer is that a number of them do; among them are: hymn, rhythm, myth, sylph, and syzygy (the alignment of three celestial objects). These words contain the so-called semivowel y and none of the true vowels.Words without vowels:(more wanted)
(i) rhythm
(ii) crypt
(iii) fly
(iv) pry
(v) cry
(vi) try
(vii) dry

(viii) fry

Wouldn't be interesting to have a word with all vowels in it?
The only word with all the vowels in reverse order is subcontinental.

Impact of TV and Computer games on Kids

Impact of TV and Computer games on Kids

What parents say about it?

Joseph, father of two boys of age 8 and 4 says,

Kids are hooked to TV and hence they lack physical activities, have less interaction with others and lack helping tendencies. Also they do not concentrate on their food. Continuous watching of TV and playing with computers affect their eye sight as well. Above all none of these are informative.

Shanthi, Sivaraman's Mom says,
The after school hours of the kids are almost occupied by either TV or computer games. My biggest concern is that this has impacted their reading habit and also these less informative companion of them influence their behaviour as well. Kids are addicted to these programs and games and react in a crazy manner when they are denied access or interrupted.

Padmavathi, mother of Naveen says,
Watching TV affects their studies and playing out. Kids do not show interest to know about day to day life. Playing in computer sitting closely to it affects the eye sight. The programs and games on wrestling make them to fight at home and with school and hence they find it difficult to maintain friendship.

Srimathi, Swami's mom says,
The kids getting back from school immediately start watching TV programs and they get involved with the characters they watch. There are so many informative stuffs to learn from computers but he kids use computers only to play games.
